Description of narrative structure and film language:
- Structure/Form: The sequence of events is a linear structure as it has no flashbacks and does not go back in time at any point.
- Mise-en-scene: It is set around a house. We will be using the bedroom and the bathroom mainly as this is a convention in most horror films of the same genre. The props that we will use are; Mobile phone, laptop and a college bag. The Mobile phone will be used throughout our film as it is significant in the film. This is because it has a meaning to it; it is also significant because it doesn’t provide us with any information. As the audience would like to know is on the other side of it. The laptop will be used at the beginning and towards the end of our film; the laptop is used to represent that fact that she is a teenager and gives the film a sense of normality. The college bag is also used to represent the fact that she is a teenager. The lighting used in our film will be natural lighting; will take advantage of the lamps and lights around the house and also in college. As she is a student the costume will be very simple as she is a college student she will be wearing jeans a top, she also will have a necklace which is significant in the film.
- Cinematography: At the beginning of the film we will use a range of shots, the most popular shots that will be used at the very beginning is mainly close ups, as this is where most of the supernatural things occur. We will need to see significant parts such as shadows; reflections and facial expressions so this is why we will use close ups at the beginning. As it starts off with the character on skype, we will use a pan to see the girl starting from the bottom of her feet moving towards her face whilst she is lying on her bed. We will then go into a tracking shot of her as she goes to put her necklace in the draw. Will then go into an over the shoulder shot so we can see the person she is talking to on skype. We will then zoom into the computer in slow motion as it starts turning itself on and off. After that we will go into a medium shot of the falling asleep. The camera will then move toward the door the shot will be a medium angle and this will show the door closing by itself. We will then go into a extreme close up of someone called ‘unknown’ calling her phone which then jumps her out of her sleep.
- Sound: The only dialogue we hear from our character will be her saying ‘hello’ every time she answers the phone. We will use non-diegetic sound to build up tension.
- Editing/Pace: The editing that will be used in our film is straight cuts and fades.
